Collecting Medicine in Early Eighteenth-Century Dublin: The Edward Worth Library
Dr Elizabethanne Boran, Librarian of the Edward Worth Library.
Dr Edward Worth (1676-1733), a physician in early eighteenth-century Dublin, bequeathed his fine library to Dr Steevens’ Hospital, where it remains today. In this lecture Elizabethanne Boran explores the medical world of Worth as reflected in his library. She plots the various influences on the development of his medical collection and explores what his books tells us of Worth’s medical preoccupations, and, more generally, about medicine in Dublin in the early eighteenth century.
