RAMI Student Research Medal and Awards 2019, Monday 14th October 2019
14/10/2019 in Corrigan & Graves Halls, RCPI, 6, Kildare Street, Dublin 2
Dear Members,
Well done everyone for making the 1st RAMI Student Research Awards a success. Despite a rocky start with the poster room not being large enough to accommodate the posters, we managed to pull it off! Many thanks to the committee members and some of our other students for helping out with putting up and taking down the posters at such short notice.
Particularly well done to:
Anurag Nasa and Aubree Worobetz for winning 1st and runner up in the platform presentations
And Rochelle Dowding and Nicholas Christodoulou for winning 1st and runner up in the poster presentations.
I will be contacting the heads of school and head of research of the institutions of the winners and runners up to let them know the happy news.
All the poster and platform judges were overwhelmed with the standard of everyone’s research over the evening. I know everyone I spoke to that evening was extremely impressed.
A few things:
1. Those of you who haven’t yet sent a PDF copy of your poster, please forward it on ASAP – we will be putting them online shortly, along with your abstracts.
2. We will soon be going through your abstracts to ‘clean’ them for publication. This will take some time. I may be emailing you individually over the next few weeks to clarify names, name order, institutions, spelling etc. All accepted abstracts were great, so don’t worry, we won’t be changing the scientific content in any way, just making sure everything is correct for publication.
3. The abstracts will be published in the Irish Journal of Medical Science. We have little control over exactly when they will be published (as it is a decision made by Springer publishing), but I will email you all when they are finally published. But if you are updating your CV, can you put “in print” after it until it’s published.
Finally, congratulations to all of you – as I said last night, you are all winners! And for some of you, welcome to RAMI. We are planning to hold regular events such as research skills evenings, OSCE workshops, and special topic courses. All events are usually free to members. If you have any ideas or suggestions for potential workshops, please let your RAMI representatives know. If it’s interesting, useful, and doable – we might be able to help! Also if you wish to come more involved, let your RAMI representatives know.
Our next workshop is on Thursday 17th October 6pm, Setanta House, Dublin 2 – where we will be holding a Presentation Skills workshop, led by Colm Moloney (GEM UCD) with Dr Mark King. Free to members. Please register if interested: https://www.rami.ie/event/rami-student-section-skills-presentation-event-thursday-17th-october-2019/
If you’re able to make it, I’ll see you there.
Thanks again for all your enthusiasm. It was really great to speak to some of you yesterday.
Dr Darren Roddy
